“There’s always a patch of sky outside the window. Sometimes, a bird flies by, often perching on a branch.”

Did you know that when you gaze outside your window for long enough, everything ends up—sometimes, often, or always—blurring together? Past and present, big and small, serious and lighthearted… Did you know that looking out a window can take you on a journey? Always, Often, Sometimes is a meditative journey that offers children a lighthearted and poetic approach to introspection, time, and memory. Emmanuelle Halgand’s incredibly smart and subtle illustrations illumine Simon Priem’s lighthearted yet profound words in a gentle and original manner.

Simon Priem biked across Asia before returning to France to write poems and stories. He now teaches elementary school in Lille and is active in several organizations such as Les Clowns de l’Espoir, which provides hospitalized children with cheering visits.

Emmanuelle Halgand writes and illustrates for children. After studying art history, graphic design, and sociology, she now devotes herself to founding and running book clubs and workshops where she lives in Rouen.
