Before, Bertille would fall asleep every night soundly, tucked in, snuggled up against her stuffed animal Oscar. That was before.

The first night, Bertille’s father lay down next to him in his bed. “Shh! Mom’s sleeping,” he whispered. The next night, he came back. Then every night after that, making Bertille swear it would be “their secret.”

Bertille doesn’t like his father’s “shushes” or his actions. Everything is confusing in his head. At home, he is no longer as happy. At school, his grades are falling. Until he comes across a book and THE sentence that will set him free. The one he will shout to his mother: “I am not Daddy’s comfort blanket.”
