Everything is peaceful by the pond. When suddenly, a tadpole hatches—pop!—slides—wiiiz—along a leaf and—splash—falls into the water, splashing a young lizard—plop!—which leaps—ziiiiip—and makes the reed tremble—frrrrt—where a cocoon is hanging.
Just like the flutter of a butterfly’s wing—which, one thing leading to another, can trigger an earthquake—the baby animals interact through onomatopoeia until they awaken a very young child.
A fervent fan of paper cutouts, from De Victoire s’entête to Big Bang Pop, Claire Cantais experiments with a graphic palette. Using a limited palette of spot colors, she metaphorically depicts the great symbiosis of nature.
A naturalist picture book, a baby book, and a poetic-ecological manifesto.
