A little mouse gets impatient in the long queue at the entrance of a museum. She takes the opportunity to observe the other visitors, with a touch of mischievousness.

This gallery of animals serves as a pretext for a kind of witty sociological study which includes blabbermouths (parrots), an ancestor (the dinosaur), a grizzly (the bear obviously) and a stinker (the pig of course), a stray (the mole) and an incognito (the chameleon), etc.

The children will enjoy reading this in company, interpreting the various characters in turn, and will want to continue the game … while waiting in queues, where they can try their own hand at attributing characters to the strangers around them.

Clarisse Lochmann’s illustrations play with transparency. Her lively figures are made up of brightly coloured ink overlays combined with the use of digital technology.
