In order to get rid of his night terrors, Yoru sets off one evening, alone in the forest, in search of Baku, a strange animal with the eyes of a rhinoceros, the trunk of an elephant, the paws of a tiger, the tail of an ox, and the body of a bear, which, it is said, sucks up nightmares to feed on them.
With his extensive knowledge of Japanese popular culture, Mickaël Soutif has created this tale based on traditional motifs. His illustrations, created using collage and digital editing, blur the line between beauty and unease, playing with strangeness to sow doubt between fiction and reality, which is ultimately the essence of legends.
