In 1515, a rhinoceros was sent to Italy as a gift for the Pope, but the ship carrying it sank off the coast of Liguria and the animal was lost. Saverio, the young protagonist of this adventure, finds the animal on a beach and a curious alliance develops between the two. The boy decides to hide it to protect it from the Landsknechts, the scoundrels who sank the ship and want to capture it…
The novel is based on a true story. It is 1515, and Albrecht Dürer creates a drawing that shocks Europe: a woodcut of a rhinoceros. Starting from the legend, Daccò writes a beautiful historical fairy tale that is both exciting and thought-provoking.
