The Scarlet Borders mark the boundary between the Empire of Jephraim and the Kingdom of Bakara.
During an attack led by the Bakareans, Yaël, daughter of the commander of the Empire’s armies, witnesses her father’s murder by Nyx, a spy. Nyx takes Yaël to Bakara to convince her that the Bakareans are not the barbarians described by the Empire, but that, on the contrary, it is the Emperors who are barbarians.
Meanwhile, Helios, Nyx’s spy brother, infiltrates the Empire’s first guard with the mission of killing the emperors, but he befriends one and cannot help but admire the presence and authority of the other.
