Durand Tony
My name is Tony Durand; I create images and write texts. I find connections between the two, manipulate symbols, and play with space—this is sometimes called graphic design or set design, or even carpentry. When I work, I try to play (and the reverse is also true). I have worked with publishers such as Didier Jeunesse, Actes Sud Junior, La Pastèque, Motus, Rue de l’Echiquier, Sombres Torrents, and La Singulière. I create books for children and for those who were once children. Some of my works have been translated into other languages, which has given me great pleasure. For the past few years, I’ve been focusing on the paper-cutting technique: I cut directly into the paper with scissors and arrange my shapes, stripping the images of everything that doesn’t serve them. I find my ideas while walking, sometimes running, as I pass through landscapes. Then, once in the studio, I try to give them form.
